Share Day - Before Fall Break


Announcing Share Day in music classes K-5
:  Twice a year, each student will be asked to share an interest or talent that they have with their classmates during their regular music class.  (See schedule below)  They can tell about, do, or show something that is unique or important to them.  Please make sure that your student is prepared to share on their appointed day. Some acts I have seen in the past include magic, cup-stacking, bouncing a ball, gymnastics, dancing, karate, singing, reciting a poem.  We will also discuss and practice appropriate audience behavior. 4/5 graders will be graded on their preparedness and supportive, respectful audience behavior. I am asking that everyone participate whether remote or in-person learners.  This is a great opportunity for students to learn about each other and have a fun engaging class.

Excel Academy Music 2020-2021

Welcome to the wonderful world of music with Mrs. Boyd.  This is my 17th year teaching music at Excel Academy.  I absolutely love music and can't wait to share my excitement with you.  My main goal this first trimester is to find joy and happiness through our musical experiences together.  I will be following the latest guidelines to help keep us as safe as possible as well as exploring, creating, and performing music together.  Whether you are face to face or remote, I can't wait for us to make music together.  Each student will be asked to join your specific Google classroom and to join us with Google meet if you are a remote learning.  The Google classroom will contain announcements, assignments and enriching activities.  Please make sue you log on often (at least once a week) so we can stay connected and growing in our musical experience and knowledge.

1. Expression of Music
The expression of music is the process of practice, refinement, and performance of acquired musical knowledge and skills to communicate a range of thoughts and emotions.
2. Creation of Music
The creation of music is the demonstration of learned skills in the composition, improvisation, and arranging of music.
3. Theory of Music
The theory of music is the understanding of the distinctive language, conventions, mechanics, and structure of organized sound. Investigation of music theory allows for a more complete understanding of all aspects of the musical process.
4. Aesthetic Valuation of Music
The aesthetic valuation of music focuses on the knowledge and perspectives needed to make informed evaluations and critiques of music. It also addresses the historical, cultural, and societal contexts which are often the beauty, heart, and soul of music.

Music Education

Music Education is an integral part of Jeffco's core curriculum and provides students with unique experiences and skills essential for success in the 21st century workforce. Students are provided instruction in all aspects of music: singing, playing, moving, reading, listening, analyzing, creating, and performing.

Research reveals strong correlations between a quality music education program and academic achievement. The study of music develops essential skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication, and team work. Participation in music supports our District's Mission: To provide a quality education that prepares all children for a successful future.
