Mrs. Van der Veer

Dear Parents,

This week we began our unit on simple machines.  We focused this week on the inclined plane.  Students experimented with a variety of objects to see how the elevation of the incline impacted the speed of the object.  Later we discussed force and used rubber bands to discover how an inclined plane decreased the amount of force needed to move an object.   Next week we will be learning about pulleys and wedges.

Please look for your child's sight word list in their Friday folder along with their spelling list for next week. Just a reminder that we have math homework Monday -Thursday (unless we have a test).  Make sure that your child does the math homework page and returns it in their math folder.  If there is a problem that is confusing to your child, please just attach a sticky note to the paper when they turn it in.  Chances are that more than one student is struggling and then I can go over the problem with the class as a whole.

And finally, I have one room parent already, but it would be ideal to have two to share the work.  Let me know if you are interested.

Stay Healthy!
Mrs. Van der Veer

Reminders for School:

  • Please remember school starts at 8:13 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m.
  • Change of clothes-accidents of one kind or another can happen.
  • Water bottles that are easy to open.  We do not have access to a water fountain, just a bottle filling station.
  • LABEL-water bottles, lunch boxes, jackets, coats, etc….otherwise “Lost and Found” grows rapidly.
  • We have an afternoon snack time but it is short, so easy, quick, healthy snacks, and no colored drinks.
  • Watch the weather and come to school prepared.
  • Drop-off and Pick-up will get better once everyone understands the flow.
